WoW: Forever Stress Test now set for October 21

Blizzard says the gates are opening for the World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test on October 21, with an update noting the event was moved from October 19 to October 21. The goal is straightforward: get as many players in as possible and hammer the servers during a limited test window.

For MacGaming.com readers, the main takeaway is accessibility: Blizzard is making this a low-friction login for anyone who wants to help test capacity—without requiring an active subscription or special access.

Anyone can participate (no sub, no invite)

According to Blizzard, anyone can take part and no subscription, Game Time, invitation, or beta access is required for the stress test. If you have Battle.net access and can install the stress test client, you should be able to join once the test goes live.

Start times by region

Blizzard lists the Stress Test start times as follows (local times):

North America: 2:00 p.m. PDT
Europe: 19:00 CEST
Korea: 06:00 KST (October 22)
Taiwan: 05:00 CST (October 22)

Blizzard also notes the beta will be taken offline shortly before the Stress Test begins and is expected to return shortly after it ends, and that the test window may end earlier or run later as needed.

How to join via Battle.net

Blizzard’s steps to get in are:

1) Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date.
2) Open the Battle.net desktop app and let it update if needed.
3) Select World of Warcraft from the game list.
4) In the Game Version menu above the Play button, choose World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test under In Development, then select Install.
5) When the Stress Test begins, hit Play, pick a test realm, create a new test character, and jump in.

Blizzard’s advice: bring friends, rally your guild, and help pack the server.

Expect a full wipe after the test

Blizzard states that when the Stress Test ends, all created characters, names, and guilds will be wiped from the stress test servers. This wipe is in preparation for Name Reservations opening on October 27.

Early name reservation window tied to specific packs

Blizzard says players who pre-purchase the Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack, or the limited-time Warcraft Forever Collection will get access to WoW: Forever Early Name Reservation from October 27 through November 3. Names will be first-come, first-served, and Blizzard cautions that desired names aren’t guaranteed.

MacGaming.com take: what Mac players should keep in mind

Blizzard’s announcement focuses on participation rules, timing, and Battle.net steps—but it does not, in this post, spell out platform support details for macOS or Apple Silicon. If you’re on a Mac, treat this as a general access stress test announcement and double-check the available client options in Battle.net on your system before the event kicks off.
