Meow Dungeon, a new single-player idle party RPG from Japanese developer Code and DESIGN Inc., is now available on the Mac App Store. Released on October 11, 2026, the game combines automatic dungeon battles, character customization, and retro-inspired pixel art with an adventure that continues even after players close the game.
Available for $2.99 as a one-time purchase, Meow Dungeon features no advertisements or in-app purchases, offering a complete RPG experience without additional spending.
Assemble Your Ultimate Cat Adventuring Party
At the heart of Meow Dungeon is a party of three customizable cats. Players can recruit companions from 14 different breeds, including Maine Coon, Bengal, Scottish Fold, and Maneki-neko, with 32 coat patterns available.
While combat plays out automatically, players remain responsible for their party's strategy, selecting equipment, assigning abilities, and balancing offensive, defensive, and healing roles.
The game features 18 skills, five ability slots, and eight equipment slots per cat, allowing for a variety of character builds. Players who prefer a simpler experience can use the automatic build system.
Dungeon battles can run at normal, double, or quadruple speed, although boss encounters are limited to double speed to make the action easier to follow.
Your Cats Keep Adventuring Even When You're Away
One of Meow Dungeon's biggest features is its offline progression system. Players can close the application during repeat dungeon runs and return later to collect rewards, experience skill growth, and continue developing their party.
Initially, offline progression supports up to 10 hours of accumulated rewards, with opportunities to extend that duration through in-game facilities and blessings.
Cats that aren't actively participating in dungeon battles can also be sent on separate expeditions, giving players additional opportunities to collect resources.
Collect Treasure, Upgrade Equipment, and Grow Stronger
Meow Dungeon features a progression system in which skills improve naturally through use during combat. As skills level up, players can unlock additional abilities and perks.
Equipment comes in six rarity tiers and features randomized attributes, encouraging players to experiment with different gear combinations.
Unlike some RPG upgrade systems, equipment enhancements in Meow Dungeon never fail. Later in the game, players can also reforge individual equipment attributes to fine-tune their builds.
There are also 22 regional treasures scattered throughout the game's world.
Explore Eight Regions and 24 Story Dungeons
Meow Dungeon takes players through eight distinct regions containing 24 story dungeons, beginning in the Cardboard Tunnels and eventually reaching the Sleepless Underkingdom.
The adventure is presented in nostalgic four-color pixel art, giving the game a distinctive retro appearance.
Beyond the main story, additional challenges include the endless Cardboard Abyss, large-scale raids involving up to nine cats across three parties, and a rebirth system that becomes available at cat level 100.
Completionists will also find 36 skill perks and 64 achievements to pursue.
Between adventures, players can visit the Cat Inn, recruit companions at the tavern, improve their equipment, and expand their facilities.
Designed for macOS
Meow Dungeon features a flexible interface designed to accommodate different window sizes on the Mac.
In its widescreen layout, the game displays party information and controls on the left, dungeon gameplay in the center, and additional management panels for squads, items, the Cat Inn, and the bestiary on the right.
Resizing the window into a portrait orientation automatically switches the interface to a portrait layout.
The game also stores progress locally, meaning players don't need to create an account to begin their adventure.
Meow Dungeon Availability and Mac Requirements
Meow Dungeon is available now on the Mac App Store for $2.99 USD, with regional pricing varying by country.
The game requires macOS 12.0 or later and supports 11 languages, including English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Russian.
Versions for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Steam are currently in development.
For Mac gamers looking for a relaxed RPG with character progression, collectible equipment, and minimal micromanagement, Meow Dungeon offers an interesting take on the idle gaming genre.
