Blizzard is spinning up the hype machine for Hearthstone’s next expansion, Reign of the Black Empire, with a run of community-focused events designed to showcase new cards early, reward viewers with Drops, and let players sample the set ahead of launch. As always, MacGaming.com readers should note that these announcements are about Hearthstone events and schedules; Blizzard’s post does not make any new platform or macOS-specific claims alongside the event details.
Reign of the Black Empire theorycrafting streams (Oct. 6–9)
According to Blizzard, this year’s theorycrafting window expands beyond a single day into a near week of early-access content. Creators will be building decks, testing interactions, and exploring the expansion before release, with participating streamers broadcasting from their own channels.
Blizzard is also enabling Drops during the theorycrafting period: watch any stream in the Hearthstone category to earn rewards.
Theorycrafting: Devs vs. Streamers (with community rewards)
Blizzard says Team Dev and Team Streamer will square off during the opening play session, and that every five victories by Team Streamer will unlock “surprise rewards” for randomly selected theorycrafting participants to share with their communities. In other words, the scoreboard matters—especially if you’re tuning in for the competition angle as well as the deck experimentation.
Regional schedule Blizzard outlined
Blizzard breaks the streaming play windows down by region, all in PDT:
NA/LATAM/EMEA: Oct. 6 (8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.) and Oct. 7 (12:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.)
APAC: Oct. 7 (2:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.)
CN: Oct. 8–9 (4:00 p.m.–8:00 a.m.)
Blizzard notes that theorycrafting participants will stream on their own channels.
“The Old God’s Gauntlet” (Oct. 8–9)
For players who prefer their early meta exploration with a side of chaos, Blizzard is also promoting Theorycrafting: The Old God’s Gauntlet hosted by Rarran and DaneHearth. Blizzard describes it as a two-day event with custom rules and unpredictable outcomes—less “refined lists,” more “what happens if we push this interaction to its limit?”
TheoryCasting coverage and Drops details
Blizzard also calls out dedicated broadcast coverage (“TheoryCasting”) led by Raven, Sottle, Edelweiss, and Lorinda, with live play-by-play and an on-stream score tracker for the Devs vs. Streamers rivalry.
Blizzard’s listed Drops during theorycrafting include:
1x Reign of the Black Empire Pack on Oct. 6 (60 minutes watch time)
1x Reign of the Black Empire Pack on Oct. 7 (60 minutes watch time)
Pre-Release Tavern Brawl (Oct. 13–20) with an updated format
Blizzard says the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl returns with a refreshed structure that limits deckbuilding to cards from Reign of the Black Empire. Players choose from predefined multi-class combinations before building a deck—most are three-class options, while Blizzard notes one special two-class combination focused on enhanced C’Thun synergies.
Blizzard also states that everyone will have Reign of the Black Empire Common and Rare cards available as free Trial Cards during the event, but these are usable for the brawl only and are not permanently added to your collection (packs are required to own them).
Blizzard is granting one free entry to all players. After that, entries cost 2 Tavern Tickets, 300 Gold, or 400 Runestones. Runs end at 6 wins or 3 losses, with rewards scaling based on performance.
Community Days (Oct. 13–17)
Blizzard is also running Hearthstone Community Days from Oct. 13 at 10:00 a.m. PDT through Oct. 17 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. Blizzard says tuning into participating Hearthstone streams during this window can earn viewers up to 3 Standard Packs and 2 Tavern Tickets.
Sneak peek: Patch 37.0 features Blizzard teased
Alongside the expansion build-up, Blizzard says theorycrafting will also feature a preview of upcoming Patch 37.0 additions, including:
The new Journal: Blizzard describes it as a hub for story content, events, Tavern Brawls, free rewards, and more.
“30 Years of Terror” crossover: Blizzard teases a Hearthstone crossover featuring Diablo, including an in-game event, a returning Tavern Brawl, and themed Shop rewards, with more details to come.
Old God collectibles: Blizzard calls out the Y’Shaarj Mythic Hero Skin, N’Zoth Pet, and a C’Thun Signature Card, plus an Old God card back tied to a collector achievement planned for Patch 37.0 (with more in the patch notes).
Pre-purchase reminder and expansion timing
Blizzard reiterates that Reign of the Black Empire unlocks on October 20. Blizzard’s Pre-Purchase Mega Bundle is highlighted as including 80 packs, 10 Golden packs, a Golden Legendary C’Thun (Eye of the Empire), a Signature Legendary Drest’agath, and 6 Tavern Tickets intended for the Pre-Release Tavern Brawl.
